Installing YakChat 2.1 into Microsoft Teams

Overview

This guide provides step by step instructions for the following two methods of installing YakChat into Microsoft Teams:
  1. A single user directly into Microsoft Teams
  2. Multiple users through the Microsoft Teams Admin Portal


Single user directly into Microsoft Teams

1. Add YakChat from Microsoft Teams App Store

Click on the button below to navigate to the YakChat app in the Microsoft Teams app store.

Alternatively, click the Apps tab in Microsoft Teams and search for "YakChat" where you will see the YakChat app tile.




Click on the YakChat app tile to open the app and then click the Add button to install into Teams.  



2. Provide user permission

Click on the Continue button to provide your permission to access to add YakChat to Microsoft Teams





3. Access YakChat

A registration page will be displayed if your Microsoft account email is not registered with YakChat.  Simply click on the Register for a free trial button to register.  Click here for a guide on how to complete the registration process.


 

Once you Microsoft account email is registered with YakChat you will automatically be signed in to YakChat using your Microsoft Teams profile and the YakChat messaging application will be displayed. Click here for a guide on how to get started.




4. Pin YakChat to the Microsoft Teams Sidebar

YakChat can be pinned to the Microsoft Teams sidebar for easier access on the desktop and Teams mobile. To pin the app, right click the YakChat icon in the Microsoft Teams sidebar and select Pin. This will keep the app on your side-panel whenever you open Teams on the desktop or Mobile.



YakChat should now be ready to go!

Multiple users through the Microsoft Teams Admin Portal

1. Adding YakChat and Granting Permission

Use the following steps to add YakChat and grant permission using the Microsoft Teams Admin Portal:
  1. Navigate to Teams Apps > Manage Apps
  2. Search and select the YakChat app
  3. Ensure the Status toggle switch is on and showing as 'Allowed'
  4. Select the Permissions tab and then click on the Review Permissions and Consent button
  5. Sign-in with your Teams Administrator credentials and accept the requested permissions in the pop-up window


Any YakChat registered user will now be able to access YakChat in Microsoft Teams.

2. Restricting access to the YakChat App

Use the following steps to restrict which users have permission to add YakChat into Microsoft Teams:
  1. Navigate to Teams Apps > Permission Policy
  2. Select the permission policy that contains the users that require access to the YakChat app 
  3. In the Third-party apps section, use the pull down to select Allow specific apps and block all others
  4. Click on the Allow apps button and in the right side panel search for 'YakChat', click on the Add  button and then click the Allow button
  5. Finally, click on the Save button to allow users in this Policy to add YakChat to Microsoft Teams


3. Adding YakChat as a pinned app in the Microsoft Teams sidebar

Use the following steps to add the YakChat app to the Microsoft Teams sidebar for all users within a Policy.
  1. Navigate to Teams Apps > Setup policies
  2. Select the permission policy that contains the users that require the YakChat app to be added to the Microsoft Teams sidebar
  3. Click on the Add apps button and in the right side panel search for 'YakChat', click on the Add  button and then click the Add button
  4. The YakChat app will be added to the list of Pinned apps.  Use the two line icon to drag to where you wish YakChat to be displayed the list of apps in the Microsoft Teams sidebar
  5. Finally, click on the Save button which will add the YakChat app to the Microsoft Teams sidebar for all users within the selected Policy
