Overview

This guide explains how to send WhatsApp messages in YakChat, including:

  1. Understanding the Customer Service Window
  2. How to send approved WhatsApp template messages
  3. How to send regular WhatsApp messages within the Customer Service Window

Understanding the Customer Service Window

WhatsApp uses a 24-hour Customer Service Window.

  1. When a WhatsApp user messages your business, a 24-hour timer starts.
  2. During this window, you can send any type of message (text, media, etc.).
  3. Outside the window, you can only send approved WhatsApp templates.

If you do not yet have template messages set up and approved by Meta, please see our guide: Creating WhatsApp Templates.

Sending a WhatsApp Template Message

Before sending a template message, ensure you have one or more approved templates in your WhatsApp Business Account.

To send a template message:

  1. Open New Chat in YakChat and add a recipient.
  1. In the message toolbar, select WhatsApp from the channel drop-down menu.
  1. Click Use a Template.
  1. A list of your approved templates will appear.
  1. Select the template you wish to use.
  1. If the template contains variables, fill in the required fields.
  1. Click Send.

Your template message will now be delivered to the recipient.

Sending a Regular WhatsApp Message Within the Customer Service Window

If your customer has recently messaged you and you are still in the active 24-hour Customer Service Window, you do not need to use a template message.

To send a standard WhatsApp message:

  1. Open the existing WhatsApp conversation in YakChat.
  1. A timer will be visible showing how much time remains in the Customer Service Window.
  1. Type your message in the message box.
  1. (Optional) Attach media such as:
  1. PDF
  1. JPEG image
  1. MP4 video
  1. Click Send.

Your message will be delivered immediately.
