How to clear Microsoft Teams cache for Windows

Introduction

This article will guide you on how to clear Microsoft Teams cache for Windows. The cache for Microsoft Teams is different for 'classic' and 'new' Teams.  Please find instructions below:

The files to be removed are in a different location for the classic and new Microsoft Teams:
  1. Classic: %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams
  2. New: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe

Remove cache in Microsoft Teams classic

Use the following steps to clear the cache in the classic version of Microsoft Teams:
  1. Right click on the Teams icon in the Windows taskbar and select Quit from the menu
  2. Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows logo key + R
  3. Paste the following into the Run dialog box: "%appdata%\Microsoft\Teams"
  4. Delete all files and folders in the directory.  Note: these will be recreated when Teams is opened again.
  5. Start Microsoft Teams

Remove cache in New Microsoft Teams

Use the following steps to clear the cache in the classic version of Microsoft Teams:
  1. Right click on the Teams icon in the Windows taskbar and select Quit from the menu
  2. Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows logo key + R
  3. Paste the following into the Run dialog box: "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe"
  4. Delete all files and folders in the directory.  Note: these will be recreated when Teams is opened again.
  5. Start Microsoft Teams
