How to add YakChat in the Webex sidebar

This guide explains how to add YakChat to your Webex sidebar for easy access. It also covers necessary settings in Webex Control Hub to ensure full functionality, including the message notifications badge.

Add YakChat to the Webex Sidebar

Follow these steps to add YakChat to the Webex side panel.

Step 1: Open Webex

  1. Launch the Webex app on your computer.

Step 2: Access the App Hub

  1. Look at the left side panel in Webex.
  2. Click the three dots (…) icon to open the options menu.
  3. Select App Hub from the menu.

Step 3: Find YakChat

  1. In the App Hub, use the search bar to type “YakChat.”
  2. When YakChat appears in the search results, click on it.

Step 4: Add YakChat to Side Panel

  1. Click Add App.
  2. Select Open from Side Panel.
  3. This will make YakChat easily accessible in your Webex sidebar.

Step 5: Launch and Sign In

  1. You will now see the YakChat logo in your Webex side panel.
  2. Click on the logo to launch YakChat.
  3. Sign in to your YakChat account.

Step 6: Start Messaging

  1. You’re ready to send and receive messages directly from Webex!

You may need to re-sign in to Webex for the embedded app to be added to the sidebar.

Webex Control Hub Settings

For the YakChat embedded app to work as intended, including displaying the message notification badge, the following settings must be enabled in Webex Control Hub by your Webex Administrator.

Step 1: Open Webex Control Hub

  1. Log in to Webex Control Hub as an Admin.

Step 2: Access the Embedded Apps

  1. In the left side panel, open the Apps menu.
  2. Select the Embedded Apps section.

Step 3: Find YakChat

  1. Find YakChat in the app name list.
  2. When YakChat appears in the results, click on it.
  3. A right-side panel with the YakChat application settings will open.

Step 4: Configure YakChat Application Settings

  1. Under Choose who has access to this app, select All users.
  2. Select the Recommend checkbox.
  3. Under Sidebar settings, enable the following:
    • Show app in sidebar
    • Make always on
    • Allow this app to access Personally Identifiable Information (optional)
